Project Name:
The owners of this Inner Sunset residence contacted MN Construction because they were expecting their second child and needed to relocate their home office out of the new baby’s future bedroom. MNC was able to come up with a creative design solution that transformed one half of an existing double garage into an office/entertainment room with new bathroom and foyer area.
The entrance doubles as a “storm room” with sloping tiled floors for easy wash down of muddy boots and bicycles as well as an attractive storage bench, coat-rack, and shoe shelves. The office/guest room was designed to function as a multi-media hub with fully integrated CAT -5 internet wiring and built-in surround sound speakers in walls and ceilings. Features include a built-in wine cooler and custom made desk with attractive compartments that allow access to hidden wiring.
To lend an illusion of more natural light, MNC designed a shelving unit lit from behind an opaque glass panel to look like an additional window.
A small area at the back of the remaining garage was used to accommodate a new bathroom with compact sink, toilet and washer-dryer unit as well as full shower with built-in seat. The room’s aesthetic is unified by the use of vertical grain fir woodwork throughout including custom-made baseboards, picture railing, and barn-style rolling doors. This garage conversion was one of our favorite design-build projects because the relationship we established with our clients really allowed us to explore the creative potential of the space and use it to best effect.
